Lansing Area Shape Note Singing, bi-monthly
We sing for our enjoyment, not for performance, in a non-worship setting, from "The Sacred harp," an old traditional shape note hymnal, in continuous publication since 1844. This style of singing is an old tradition, once used primarily in rural southern churches, but now found around the globe, featuring wonderful harmonies and poetry. This style of singing can be seen in the film "Cold Mountain" and features discordant harmonies and open fifths, with each part having its own unique melody. (1st and 3rd Tuesdays) (more)

 Michael Johnson Concert at MAMA's
Singer, guitarist, soloist, showman - this is the way Michael Johnson describes himself. This balladeer with a distinctive tenor voice sings of love and regret with a country Nashville sound that's sentimental but never succumbs to cowboy cliche. Michael says: "I like to talk to people and I love to make them laugh. And of course, I have to move them with the music. That's the whole thing. Without that, there is no reason to be on stage.' Doors open 7:00, open mic at 7:30 Admission: $12 - Seniors and under 18: $10 (more)
