Register and pick up a Bingo Card at the Checkout Desk. Fill all squares by reading nine books checked out from Loutit District Library and have your reading verified at the Checkout Desk before August 31. Win a custom-designed book bag, courtesy of Friends of Loutit District Library. The theme this year is Exercise Your Mind. Unabridged audio books on CD and e-books and e-audio books checked out from Overdrive are acceptable. Books over 500 pages or audio books over 10 CDs count as two books. (more)

Program Room A Journalist and author Amy Haimerl took a big chance two years ago: she and her husband bought a house in Detroit. Her memoir, Detroit Hustle: a memoir of love, life, and home, tells the story of what happened next, from the struggles of financing a house restoration in a town where no one will give you a loan, finding a local bar, connecting with neighbors, and building a new life in a city that many have abandoned. Amy will discuss her journey to making that house a home in Detroit with a Q&A and book signing to follow. Books will be available for purchase from The Bookman. (more)

Program Room A Join author Wade Rouse for an evening centered on his first novel, The Charm Bracelet. Wade will read from and discuss his novel as well as his decision to choose his grandmother’s name, Viola Shipman, as a pen name. Wade will also talk about his artistic inspirations, his concerns over the loss of family traditions and oral histories, and his new series of heirloom novels from St. Martin’s Press. Upper Level Lobby The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will be holding swearing in ceremonies of new US citizens at Loutit District Library with ceremonies held at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Each ceremony is scheduled to last about an hour with new US citizens taking the oath, representing many different nations. A small reception, hosted by the library, will take place immediately following each ceremony downstairs in Program Room A. (more)
