7:00 pm I’m Dying to Talk with You
Dave Kampfschulte is Director of Amazing Circles Workshops, national speaker, facilitator, and author of I’m Dying to Talk with You: Twenty Five Years of Conversations on End of Life Decisions. In this presentation, he will draw upon 27 years of experiences as a hospice volunteer to discuss advanced care planning, initiating end of life conversations with others, and helping people to think about and discuss death in a positive way. Mr. Kampfschulte will also explore some of the roadblocks we often put in the way of discussing death. While a difficult subject, this session will be interactive, informative, and delivered with energy, empathy, and humor. (more)

Author and GVSU professor Jim Goode will present a brief history of the old Syrian community of Grand Rapids, one of the largest in the United States. He will discuss patterns of immigration, the economic and religious character of the community, and its slow process of acculturation. He will focus on one member of this community in particular, businessman Joseph Nejem, who made his home in Grand Haven from 1908 to 1970. (more)

The story of the Titanic is well-known. The maiden voyage of the famed “unsinkable” ship ended in disaster in April 1912 when it struck an iceberg and sank. Of the over 2,200 passengers onboard, including many of the world’s wealthiest, only 705 people survived. Historian Jay Follis will be the special guest lecturer will present his engaging and informative program “Titanic: West Michigan Connections.” (more)

2:00 pm  Sunday Afternoon Concert Series: Folias Flute and Guitar Duo
The Grand Rapids based Folias Flute and Guitar Duo was founded by the husband and wife duo Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron in 2002. They perform original flute and guitar music influenced by classical, tango, and jazz. They have performed in concert halls, clubs and for tango events across North America. The duo’s original compositions and arrangements have been recorded on the Blue Griffin Recording and White Pine Music labels and have been reviewed by Flute Talk magazine and Fanfare Magazine. Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron are also avid bloggers and you will find posts on their love for food, the great outdoors, and adventurous touring at their website foilasmusic.com.
