This engaging presentation is geared to providing you the tools necessary to avoid scams, fraud, and identity theft. Garland will also let you know what to do if you become a fraud victim and the tools available to help move forward. Learn what you should be carrying in your purse or wallet, what you should keep in your safety deposit box or home safe, and what information you can share over the phone. Garland will teach you the right way to check your credit report and the safest way to use your debit and credit cards. There will be a question and answer session to allow additional discussion. Join Barbara Carlson and learn the art of Zentangle. Zengangle are drawings created from an ensemble of repetitive patterns. They're not only exquisitely beautiful, but fun and relaxing to create. 7:00 pm Working Dogs
The NATIONAL Crisis Response Canine is an all volunteer organization that has teams throughout the United States. Handler Char Nash will introduce what they do in working with the victims and families involved in a crisis. This crisis can be a natural disaster or something in our local community such as a drowning, student death and or a traffic accident to name a few. The NATIONAL teams work along with mental health workers, first responders, Red Cross, Green Cross and many other agencies. They are volunteers who go through hours of training such as Psychological First Aid, as does our canines. (more)

3:30 pm The Lord of the Gourd Watermelon Tour 2015 comes to Loutit District Library
Northern Michigan artist/musician Pat Harrison, a.k.a. the Lord of the Gourd, is a self described agri-artist. He has been traveling the state of Michigan for 16 years doing carving demonstrations and performing music. To date he has made 36 television appearances and has been featured in newspapers, magazines and on radio nationwide. Pat travels the state carving fruit and melons in the Spring and Summer, and in the Fall he switches over to pumpkins and squash. He's on the road doing shows from June until January and also finds time to play a few music shows in between. While he does travel nationwide at times, he prefers to stay in Michigan and is especially excited to be carving in Grand Haven where he was born! (more)

7:00 pm The Sinking of the Escanaba
Author and Spring Lake attorney Ed Grafton, who writes under the pen name Henry Granger, will talk about the research and travels undertaken to prepare for writing his book, Men of Good Will, a historical thriller on USCG Cutter Escanaba . Granger’s photo illustrated presentation will complement the upcoming 225th Anniversary Celebration of the Coast Guard during this year's Festival. The Escanaba served on the Great Lakes and was docked in Grand Haven until the beginning of World War II. The icebreaker was pressed into wartime service and exploded and sank while on convoy duty during June of 1943. Granger will discuss his investigations into the sinking of the Escanaba and the history surrounding the event. Books will be available to purchase and sign following his program. (more)
