| 11:00 am | Farmington Hills 2-for-1 Hike. Hike 3-4 miles total at a moderate pace, starting in Heritage Park (with Rouge River views and crossing). Then we will travel 1 mile north to Woodland Hills Nature Preserve for another surprisingly beautiful hidden natural area with more dense woods and meadows, plus a creek and a pond. Bring your bike, or rent one there, for this moderate paced ride. | 10:00 am | Kensington MetroPark Summer Wildflower Walk. Walk 3-4 miles at a slow-moderate pace with frequent stops to admire and ID whatever we may find. This is not a usual wildflower spot, but I found lots 2 summers ago. Optional: bring a brown bag lunch; enjoy the little nearby peninsula and maybe see sandhill cranes again. | 8:45 am | Canoe Lower Huron River. Lets get an early start to see the wildlife as we drift down this part of the river - west of Ann Arbor. Hudson Mills Metropark to Delhi M.P.; stopping halfway for our picnic lunch. | 11:00 am | Bike the Wadhams to Avoca Trail in St. Clair County. Lets go to Sierras northern boundary to ride the showpiece of this paved, and or hardpack trail. Ride 8 miles to Michigans longest rail trail bridge (the Mill Creek Trestle), from the 1800s, 640ft long, 60ft high with spectacular views. Then return on same path. This is a combined bike and equestrian trail. Bring bike, helmet, water, snacks; dress for weather; call if weather is ? Meet at trailhead at N.W. corner of Wadhams Rd. and I-69. | 10:00 am | Bike Harsens Island. We will meet in Algonac, cycle .25 mi. to the ferry (free), cross the St. Clair River to Harsens Island. Scenery of the river, freighters, sail boats, quaint summer Victorian homes, distant view of Detroit. 20 miles riding on paved roads, bring HELMET, & WATER. Restaurant stop on the south channel of the island during our ride (maybe Sans Souci Bar and Grille). Meet in the NE corner of McDonalds parking lot to unload bikes, 700 Pointe Tremble Road, Algonac. | 9:30 am | Canoe Upper Huron River. Our 3-4 hour canoe trip starts below the dam in Island Lake State Park. Trout, kingfishers and great blue herons abound on this stretch. Some experience necessary. Must phone leader to reserve your spot by 7/8; $21 each covers canoe rental fees.
