Lets continue the celebration of Independence Day by hiking in our Farmington Hills Heritage Park. We can look for deer tracks on the trails as we walk through the forest. We will stop on the bridges crossing the Huron River to look for ducks, fish and frogs, then explore the meadows and hillsides looking for bluebirds. Soothe your harried workaday nerves (or recover from the rigors of the retiree lifestyle!) with an easy, relaxing after-work, mid-week paddle at Stony Creek MetroPark. Bring your own kayak or canoe, or rent one there. We'll paddle until 8pm. This is an easy, casual outing for any ability level. PFD use is mandatory. PFDs & paddles are included with rentals. Lets enjoy a leisurely float on the Huron River, from Proud Lake Livery to downtown Milford and back. Bring a picnic lunch and drink, we paddle to the town park (1 hour), enjoy our picnic, walk to the ice cream store, then paddle back (2 hours). Birds and ducks usually seen. $22 for each person. 1:00 pm Holland Ponds and Yates Cider Mill Hike in Shelby Township
An easy, relatively level hike in Macomb County with the possibility of seeing great blue herons on the nest at the pond. Be sure to bring binoculars. This 3.5 mile hike, with an ice cream stop in the middle at the cider mill, would be perfect for beginners. Meet 10am in Bloomfield Hills behind the CVS pharmacy on the SE corner of Woodward and Square Lake Rd., NE end of lot; OR 2pm at the Holland Ponds parking lot on Ryan Road just north of 22 Mile. We start at Riverbends Park and end in Heritage Park in Utica. This 2 hr. trip offers paddlers some of the best of the Clinton, with an up-north feel! With a steady current, and several tight turns, paddlers get to feel real river paddling. Cost is $30 - $35 a Kayak depending how many sign- ups. Canoes are $40-$45. Meet in Algonac, leave at 10am, cycle .25 mi. to the ferry (free), cross the St. Clair River to Harsens Island. Scenery of the river, freighters, sail boats, quaint summer Victorian homes, distant view of Detroit. 20 miles riding on paved roads, bring HELMET, WATER, SPARE TUBE. Tour northern Macomb County in all its summer splendor at an easy pace of 11-13mph. We will ride to Romeo and back, about 20-25 miles total, with a slight downhill on return!!! Explore hiking into the sunset, and seeing the stars show up, and the moonrise as we return! We picnic at 6, bring your beverage and a dish to pass. After we eat, we leave at 7 to hike west 2 miles, then return with the full moon popping up (9:14pm). Long sleeves, meet at Maybury State Park - horse stable parking lot (picnic shelter).
