An easy, relatively level hike with the possibility of seeing great blue herons on the nest at the pond. Be sure to bring binoculars. This 3.5 mile hike, with an ice cream stop in the middle at the cider mill, would be perfect for beginners. Lets go to this County park near Holly - for an enjoyable hike around all the lakes here. We will see if the water lilies are blooming around Richardson Lake. We will take the nature trails through the woods, looking for wildlife, then take the trails around Wildwing Lake, searching for waterfowl resting on the calm water. We will see some very scenic spots on this 6-mile hike. The trees will be turning colorful stages of red, vermillion, gold and yellow as we go up and down the hilly trails. The several loops of these trails make it easy to do a 5 or 8 mile long hike. We will let the weather and our moods decide which we will do. These are beautiful trails that cross creeks, climb into hardwood forests, meander through meadows, circumvent lakes and avoid briars and brambles as much as possible. Like a Triathalon but more fun, less work! Meet 10am at the Story Creek Nature Center for a 4-mile hike on the nature trails. About noon, enjoy your brown bag lunch in the company of other outdoors lovers. Everyone knows about the hilly trails in Holly, we will take the longer trails, for a 9 mile hike around lakes, and through the woods. The leaves will be deep and crunchy, so our noisy progress will probably scare wildlife away. Bring lunch and beverage, there will be a high overlook of the lake halfway for a rest and lunch stop.
