THE FRIDAY LISTENING ROOM SERIES presents ANDRU BEMIS
Just Goods (201 7th Street Rockford, IL)

Contact: 815.965.8903 justgoodslistening@gmail.com

Since 2001, Michigan's foremost neo-folk troubadour has wandered the ends, edges and in-betweens of North America more times than he can count - by train, foot, thumb, bicycle, bus, subway, ski and occasional aeroplane. Wearing a three-piece suit and derby hat, Bemis carries his beat-up instruments on his back: banjo, guitar, sometimes a fiddle or banjolele.... His quirky humor, engaging stage presence and exquisitely crafted songs have earned Bemis a worldwide fanbase (www.andrubemis.com). Doors open at 6 pm. General admission seating - arrive early to reserve your spot. Suggested donation - no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Fourth Friday Contra w/ open band
Fifth Street Hall (701 5th Street Northwest Grand Rapids, Mi)

Contact: 616 307 0883 Promotions@grfolkarts.org

Contra dancing is basically like the square dancing your grandparents did, but to live music and in different formations. There are some basic moves that the caller teaches and then the dance is called out step by step. It is definitely aerobic and the swirling, intereactive dance is intoxicating, so it is best to show up with a clear head! Young, old, single, married, first timers and dance masters are all welcome. You don't need to bring a partner. $ 6 per dancer, $ 2/ musician
7:30 pm
PETAL SHOP
Foundry Hall (422 Eagle Street South Haven, MI)

Contact: 269.206.3059 info@foundryhall.com

Folk music with a flavor of the '30s-40s is injected with fresh, modern storytelling. Petal Shop, from Detroit, performs with an energy that is at once the subtle tension of an intimate folk concert and the wild, pentecostal drive of punk-driven bluegrass. Fiddle, banjo and guitar cling to each other as three vocals intersect and blend into a single, stratified voice. Dancing is common, both on and off stage as Petal Shop's members beg for “just one 'amen!'” Doors open at 7 pm. General admission seating - arrive early to reserve your spot. $5-$7. Get tickets at www.foundryhall.com, 800.838.3006, in person at StudioHaus or at the door before the show. Suggested donation after 7:30 pm.

At the back is the cottage wall, where Publican would open his doors to friends and neighbors alike for cheerful hours of drinking, storytelling, conversations and music.
