We sing for our enjoyment, not for performance, in a non-worship setting, from "The Sacred harp," an old traditional shape note hymnal, in continuous publication since 1844. This style of singing is an old tradition, once used primarily in rural southern churches, but now found around the globe, featuring wonderful harmonies and poetry. This style of singing can be seen in the film "Cold Mountain" and features powerful harmonies and open fifths, with each part having its own unique melody.

Daniel Bair will be talking about The Farm at St. Joseph's hospital. The hospital is starting to grow much of its own food, in part using two (of a planned twelve) unheated hoop houses. Extra produce will be sold at twice-weekly market days, and also go to Food Gatherers to provide fresh produce to folks who might otherwise not be able to afford it.
Daniel will discuss the farm, the hoop houses, and what it's like growing food for the hospital's use.

Saturday September 11, 2010- 8:00 am Lake Erie Metropark Field Trip
We will traverse woodlands, boardwalks, and observation platforms looking for warblers, other songbirds, and migrating water birds. After the hike we will go down to the boat launch to watch the hawk migration for awhile. This is one of the best areas in North American for hawk migration. As many as 555,000 broadwinged hawks have been seen in just one day!

- 3:30 pm Personal Action Toward Health-Eaton Rapids
Personal Action Toward Health is a free 6 session workshop, 2.5 hrs per session, for people with on going health conditions or their caregivers. The class provides ways to take control of the ongoing health condition through problem solving and action plans. Topics covered include distraction, exercise, nutrition, relaxation and pain management. A snack is provided. Registration required and after the second session new participants are not accepted.
